About Oliver Heldens
Heldens embarked on his professional music journey by joining Spinnin' Records in 2013. His initial releases on the label included tracks like "Stinger" and "Thumper," featuring DJ Jacob van Hage. In the same year, his song "Gecko" garnered attention from fellow Dutch DJ Tiësto, leading to its signing with Tiësto's label, Musical Freedom. This track, later released with vocals by British singer Becky Hill as "Gecko (Overdrive)," topped the UK Top 40 chart in June 2014. Notably, it was hailed as an "Essential New Tune" by BBC's Pete Tong and received support from prominent DJs like David Guetta, Martin Garrix, and Zedd.
In January 2014, Heldens initiated his Heldeep Mixtape series on SoundCloud, showcasing extended mixes spanning various electronic music genres, including deep house and tech-house. His remix of Martin Garrix's "Animals" featured in the first mixtape. He also delved into remixing, reimagining tracks by artists like Robin Thicke and later embarked on his DJ Mag Top 100 journey, debuting at number 34 in 2014.
Throughout the following years, Heldens continued to make strides in his career. He launched his label, Heldeep Records, in 2015, aimed at promoting emerging talents in the electronic music scene. The label's roster expanded to include artists like Alok, Chocolate Puma, and Dada Life. Concurrently, he unveiled his HI-LO project, showcasing a deeper underground sound compared to his mainline work. The project, marked by tracks like "Renegade Mastah" and "Crank It Up," gained recognition within the industry.
Transitioning into 2017, Heldens released singles like "Ibiza 77" and later signed with RCA Records in 2018. His track "Fire in My Soul," featuring vocals from Shungduzo, topped the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart. He also engaged in environmental activism, partnering with the Plastic Soup Foundation to combat ocean pollution.
In 2019, Heldens achieved success with "Turn Me On," a collaboration with DJ Riton and singer Vula. The track climbed various charts globally, cementing his position as a prominent figure in the dance music scene. He continued his prolific output with singles like "Lift Me Up" and "Summer Lover," collaborating with industry icons like Nile Rodgers.
The following years saw Heldens focusing more on his HI-LO project, releasing tracks such as "Kronos" and "Zeus." Collaborations with techno artists like Reinier Zonneveld marked a shift in his musical direction. Simultaneously, he maintained his presence with singles like "Never Look Back" and "Another Chance," showcasing his versatility across genres.
